Something a little different from my usual postings… Today I am at university studying for a module on a marketing postgraduate course I am taking at University of Hertfordshire. Topics for today… Internal and External Analysis.
Internal analysis – things like portfolio matrix, value chain, product life cycle, innovation audit, McKinsey’s 7 S’.
External Analysis – looking at the micro-environment – porters 5 forces, and finalizing with swot or key success factors; When looking at the micro, competition is important and porters competitive analysis (future goals, assumptions, current strategy, capabilities) is a useful tool.
and macro environment – looking at demographics, physical factors, polictical, legal, economic, social, technological – using the PEST model.
