Highstreet Sales are damaging to the retailers

As the recession in the UK deepens retailers in the UK are promoting more offers to customers, with the latest being sales of the Easter weekend.  I wanted to quickly write to really highlight that customers are starting to expect these sales in the highstreet.  As more expectation mounts, more pressure is going to mount on the retailer to provide the discounts to be competitive and ensure that customers purchase from them.

Where does all this leave the retailers? Potentially at the point of no return as customers now have the expectation of low comptitive prices.

Loyalty to cetain retailers and brands are now also going to be hit, with price consciousness being key.  Marketers need to be innovative to get customers / create comptitive advantage in other ways than discounting.

The BBC (BBC.co.uk) have expanded on this today.
